Term 1 Week 8 Blog Prompt - Wednesday, March 4, 2009 12:51 AM

Q: Describe how people in your country are doing their part to save the country.

More and more people in Singapore are feeling the pinch of rising temperatures and more so the increase in the price of electricity. I feel that it is not the public speeches about how to save the environment that is doing the trick, but rather the rising cost of electricity. As long as people don;t get what they want for free, they immediately tighten their belts^^.
Anyway, people anround my neighbourhood have been more conscious not to litter or spit on the ground wheever they want. They grow plants outside their houses, which add to the greenery of Singapore. Hwa Chong is recycling the newspapers that hey have us read in the morning and that is definitely friendly to the environment. And just this afternoon, I met my neighbour, who told me how we should all save electricity and water by switching off the lights when we go to sleep( just for your info, I sleep with lights on :p), and not to let the shower head run on for too long. He told me taht most people have already started living with these steps to save the environment. They got plumbers to install half-flush buttons in their toilet bowls to save more water in flushing and some of them even avoided flushing their toilets completely, though I do not recommend this. Furthermore, they are also encouraging their children to rinse their mouth after brushing their teeth with a cup of water instead of a running tap.
I have also begun to adapt to these steps that can help save the environment. But the irony of all this is that we use electricity while we use the computer to write these 'environmeantaly friendly' reports. But it's better than using paper, I guess.
